The Pilates Method – Trusting the Method is Key to Results!

Woman doing exercises from the Pilates Method

Joseph Pilates’ vision for his exercise method (which he called Contrology) was that it would improve your life. He desired for us to have all the energy as well as mental and physical capabilities to do the things we want to do!! He wanted your body restored and he wanted you to have control over it.

Every single Pilates exercise is full body and provides benefits to the body’s musculoskeletal system and your internal systems. Every single Pilates exercise requires you to think – so that your brain tells your body what to do. The exercises are very detailed and require a lot of you!! And just when you’ve mastered it…Robert and I will find a new, juicier way to challenge you in that very same exercise. 🙂

Lessons Learned: 10 Years with the Pilates Method

I’ve taught nearly 10,000 lessons over the last 10 years and I’ve learned some things about your body and my body with Pilates.
1. Keep practicing. That exercise that is your nemesis – one day you’ll do it!
2. Trust the Pilates Method. Sometimes, Robert and I hope/wish for you to have change sooner than it comes. Your body has a “reason” for developing inefficient movement – often this is somewhat frustratingly mysterious! But, we trust the method because we’ve seen it work over and over agin in our own bodies and in our clients bodies! We can’t tell you when, because everyone is unique; but your change will come. So, keep practicing! I started Pilates in 2008 and I am still experiencing improvements in my body – you will too. I promise. 🙂
3. Progress usually comes when we least expect it. We can’t “demand” progress, we must encourage the body. Don’t get greedy, don’t get frustrated…just keep practicing, enjoy the challenges and the breakthroughs!

I have learned to trust the Pilates method. In my own body and with your body. The method works if you work the method. Sometimes, Robert and I don’t have an “answer” and in those moments we just keep on teaching Pilates because it we know it will produce results!
