Pilates and the Mind Body Connection

Pilates workout

It took Joseph Pilates his entire life to develop the Pilates Method. His passion and his purpose was always to help people improve their healthy – body, soul and spirit. Each exercise requires strong mental concentration and awareness of your body. Long before science proved that the more muscles you use the more brain cells you activate (yes, read that again!!), Joseph believed this to be true and that is why every exercise is a full body exercise!!

So, as you practice Pilates, your mind body connection and proprioception increases and you become able to activate more and more muscles (and therefore more brain cells) into a coordinated effort (think of an orchestra playing a beautiful song)! Thus the more results you will experience.

Benefits You Can Receive by Building Your Mind Body Connection:

1. Increased brain cell activation:

This is not just during Pilates, but Pilates wakes them up. Keep activating muscles and you’ll keep activating brain cells. You may find yourself having greater mental clarity and focus.

2. Improved coordination and balance:

Pilates puts you in some unusual positions relative to gravity and this prepares you for when you are caught off balance in life. Improves athletic performance and reduces injuries too!

3. Reduced stress and anxiety:

In the book, The Body Keeps the Score, Dr. Van der Kolk explains the benefits of participating regularly in a mind body exercise method such as yoga and Pilates. This type of exercise movement is healing to the brain and body on very, very deep levels.

Pilates is healing, transforming and intelligent exercise for EVERY body, soul and spirit!

We really, really DO have so much power and control over our health. We hope this encourages you and challenges you and awakens you to the power of Pilates!
